Making More Bling!

 

Time for autumnal activities!

Last week I attended a new class at The Beaderie.

 

Friendly and lovely Sally taught us how to make the embellished right-angle woven bracelet.

 

The classes are small - max 4 people so we get plenty of assistance if needed. Since this is my second class I felt it was quick to get my head around it.

 

Not a bad way of spending a couple of hours on a blustery autumnal mid week evening!

 



Replacement and New Creations

OK, I know we are hoping to do without scarves soon, but given how the weather has been here the last couple of weeks you would be forgiven for thinking we were on the other side of summer... 

 A few years ago I knitted a scarf out of eyelash yarn. I loved this scarf and was devastated when I lost it at work one day. I briefly forgot it in the common room one day and although I went back a few minutes later it was gone!

So, I popped in to a craft shop when I was in Norway last weekend and got some new yarn. With 33 stitches, size 4 needles and just plain knitting it is such an easy project to do in front of TV or while listening to music so this is was done in a couple of evenings!

I don't mind if the weather improves and the scarf won't be needed for another 6 months though!

But as I also got new glasses (progressive glasses for the first time...!) this week I have taken advantage of being able to see small details and made some more bead bracelets out of beads I have had lying around for a long time.

Can you tell I love purple (and pearls)????

Learning Something New...

I admit it...

I love a bit of bling and jewellery.

I also love to be a bit creative.

So, I went on a course last night and learnt how to make a chevron bead bracelet

Flaunting it!

A few months ago I came across a suggestion for displaying jewellery. Christine (the very first blogg I started reading) suggested this in her blog Hvitstil.com. I thought it was a great idea to display your jewellery in a suitable padded frame instead of hiding them in a jewellery box. I was therefore on the lookout for a frame to use, but instead I came across this display frame/cabinet.

Now most of my jewellery got stolen last year, but it is nice to see how new things are "coming my way". Several of the new pieces have been made by friends and I LOVE them - they are very ME! There is hardly a day I don't wear jewellery. Soooo glad I am a girl (well, for other reasons too...!)

Oh, and the poppy bud from yesterday is now in bloom:

Knitted Jewellery

Knitted jewellery might sound strange, but that is what I did the last two nights while watching television.

Last summer we had a break in to our house and all my jewellery was taken. It was heart breaking. So many memories were lost. There were many things of no particular monetary value that means nothing to anybody else, but were precious to me. But onwards and upwards! That is now in the past and no point in dwelling on it (although... if I ever met those @&%* who did it...!).

I have always loved jewellery and being married to an Iranian has its perks particularly in this respect as especially my in-laws have always been very generous to me.

I have also dabbled in making a few things of my own. This is my latest "creation":

It is knitted 0.3mm wire with seed beeds threaded onto the wire (knitting needle no 3-ish). The most time consuming part was actually to thread all the beeds onto the wire.

I then cast seven stitches and knitted it incorporating the beeds occassionally as I went on to the length needed.

I proceed with folding the bracelet lengthways and rolled in my hands to this rounded effect.

I used a lobster clasp with a split ring as the fastening. 

Voila!
